A Moment with the Mayor: Community Building and Growth

Fall is a wonderful time to see the community come together for many great reasons.

This year has brought one of the most summer-like autumns in recent memory. Back in 2018, we saw an early snowfall that halted harvest work across rural areas for more than a month. This fall, we have been blessed with long, warm days and plenty of sunshine, creating a perfect season for construction and project completion.

It is great to see so many people out enjoying Bud Miller All Seasons Park and our walking trails. If you have not taken a drive in the country or gone for a walk lately, I highly recommend it. We are seeing more businesses open, and with schools back in session, there is a welcome return to a more scheduled pace of life.

There is a sense of bustle around the city as farmers take advantage of the warmer, dry weather to finish bringing in their crops. On October 1, we officially opened the new Cenovus Energy Hub and look forward to many years of exciting games, concerts, and community events. Our sponsors have been truly transformational, and it is inspiring to see such strong community involvement.

As the fall season continues, local communities will gather to give thanks for all that we have. Many will do so by attending fall suppers that support community and church halls, providing much-needed fundraising for local spaces. With nearly perfect harvest conditions, many residents are eager to turn out in full force to share updates on crop progress and road work across the area.

I would also like to acknowledge the incredible community support for local charities hosting fundraising events this fall. These organizations provide essential resources and support to those in need, and our residents continue to show tremendous generosity in helping them succeed. I am truly grateful to be part of a community that gives back, builds together and continues to grow stronger every season.
