Apply for non-profit organization property tax exemptions by September 30

Lloydminster, AB/SK – The City of Lloydminster reminds property owners that non-profit organizations have until Tuesday, September 30, 2025, to apply for property tax exemptions.

To qualify, non-profit organizations must meet the following criteria:

• The facility must be described in Section 314 of the Lloydminster Charter and meet the qualifications and conditions of the Community Organizations Property Tax Exemption Regulation.
• Funds must be used for the purposes of the organization and not for the benefit of its directors or employees.
• The property must meet specified accessibility and time-of-use requirements.
• The property must be owned or leased by a non-profit organization.
• The property must be unrestricted more than 70 per cent of the time.
• The property must serve a charitable and benevolent purpose that benefits the public for at least 60 per cent of its time in use.
• Access must be unrestricted by race, culture, ethnic origin, religious belief, property ownership, unreasonable fees or other membership requirements.
• The property cannot be used for the operation of a professional sports franchise.

Exemptions may be approved for a maximum of three years, after which a new application is required. Organizations approved for a three-year exemption in 2024 are not required to reapply until September 2026.

If a non-profit organization purchases a property after the submission deadline, it may still apply. Council will determine whether to approve an exemption for the portion of the year the organization owned the property.
