Cenovus Energy Hub welcomes user groups as final work is completed

Lloydminster, AB/SK — Lloydminster user groups will be among the first to experience Cenovus Energy Hub as the finishing touches are completed on Lloydminster’s new premier indoor ice and event facility, marking a major milestone in the project’s development.

Beginning Saturday, September 6, 2025, Cenovus Energy Hub will open its doors to select teams, including
Lloydminster Minor Hockey, Lloydminster Athletics, Lakeland College, and the Lloydminster Skating Club. During this transition, bookings at the Centennial Civic Centre will continue for the Jr. A Bobcats, Jr. B Bandits, and other users as needed.

“While the official celebration is yet to come, we are thrilled to open the doors of Cenovus Energy Hub and
begin welcoming teams into this long-anticipated space,” said Tracy Simpson, Executive Manager of
Community Development Services. “This soft launch gives user groups early access to familiarize themselves with the building while we prepare to welcome the entire community to see and explore the building during the grand opening in October.”

While the building is now operational, light finishing work will continue through the month of September. This
includes final installations such as portions of hand railings, signage, and select seat sections. Certain
amenities, such as the concession, will open at a later date. The City and its partners are working diligently to
ensure the facility is fully completed in advance of the official grand opening on October 1.

Access to Cenovus Energy Hub from 40 Avenue is temporarily affected by road construction closures and
traffic pattern changes. The primary access point is currently from 36 Street on the south side of the site and
additionally from 37 Avenue and 41 Street. Drivers are asked to follow posted signs and detours until regular
access routes are reopened.

A replacement for the Centennial Civic Centre, Cenovus Energy Hub will serve as a gathering place for sports, wellness, and cultural activities in the region. Featuring modern amenities, multi-purpose spaces, and inclusive design, the facility is poised to become a cornerstone of community activity for generations.

The City extends its thanks to the community for its patience and continued support throughout the
construction process.
