City of Lloydminster to begin property assessment inspections

Lloydminster, AB/SK— The City of Lloydminster will begin property assessment inspections on May 12, 2025. Residential property inspections will occur in the Central Business District and East Lloydminster neighbourhoods, north of Highway 16 (44 Street), throughout the summer. Non-residential property inspections will take place in the Hill Industrial Park area.

The City of Lloydminster conducts property inspections on an ongoing basis. The authority for these inspections is granted under Section 294 of the Municipal Government Act (MGA), which permits assessors to enter properties with reasonable notice for the purpose of carrying out their duties.

Municipal Government Act (MGA) Section 294

  1. After providing reasonable notice to the property owner or occupier, an assessor may:
    • Enter and inspect the property,
    • Request anything to be produced, and
    • Make copies of anything necessary for the inspection.
  2. An assessor must produce identification on request.
  3. An assessor must inform the property owner or occupier of the purpose for collecting information.

These inspections are essential for determining fair and accurate property assessments. Factors such as location, size, condition, and any improvements made will be considered.

City staff will carry identification. If no one is present at the time of the inspection, a card with contact information will be left requesting a callback.
