Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan recognized with SEDA Chairperson Award

Lloydminster, AB/SK – The Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan (DARP) has been recognized with the Saskatchewan Economic Developers Association (SEDA) Chairperson Award, presented on Tuesday, November 4 at the SEDA conference.

The award recognizes the city’s efforts to strengthen community and economic development through the transformation of the downtown area. 

“We’re proud to see the DARP recognized at the provincial level,” said Mayor Gerald Aalbers. “This award highlights the collective effort to strengthen Lloydminster’s economic future by investing in a downtown that supports local business, public spaces, and continued community growth.”

“The DARP’s success comes from a shared vision of what our downtown can become,” said Ben Harrison, Chair of the DAR Committee. “This recognition reinforces the importance of long-term planning and collaboration in shaping a vibrant and resilient community core.”

Each year, SEDA presents a Special Recognition Award to honour individuals, organizations, or communities that have shown a long-term commitment to the growth and sustainability of their community and the province.

• Upgraded utilities and surface improvements
• Wider sidewalks, enhanced lighting, and new landscaping
• Community input through the Facade and Building Improvement Program
• A focus on accessibility and environmentally friendly practices
• Event development and placemaking

The DARP highlights the importance of strategic planning, community input, and practical design in supporting downtown growth. The completion of the first phase provides a strong foundation for future development.
