Edwardian Era in the West opens at Lloydminster Museum + Archives

Lloydminster, AB/SK – A new exhibition at the Lloydminster Museum + Archives will transport visitors back in time to the early 1900s, exploring the people, culture, and innovations that shaped life on Canada’s Prairies during the Edwardian period.

Edwardian Era in the West runs from November 8, 2025, to February 28, 2026, at the Lloydminster Museum + Archives (LMA). Developed by the Lacombe Museum with financial support from the Museums Assistance Program’s Access to Heritage Fund, the exhibit highlights the cultural and technological changes that defined the years 1902 to 1914.

At its core, the exhibit explains the Edwardian Era and tells the story of Lacombe and its early residents, a reflection of the experience of many Prairie towns during a time of rapid growth and transformation. Visitors will encounter stories of everyday people whose determination and innovation helped shape their communities.

To connect the exhibit to Lloydminster’s own history, the LMA has included artifacts and archival photographs from its collection. Together, they reflect the stories of the land’s early inhabitants and the settlers who helped shape the growing community.

“Hosting this exhibit from the Lacombe Museum provided an opportunity to connect the Edwardian Era in the West to our community’s own history,” said Natalie Clysdale, Manager of Lloydminster Mueseum + Archives. “Including artifacts from our collection allows us to expand on the narrative, share new research, and offer visitors a deeper understanding of the era and its impact on local life.”

The Edwardian era was a time of booming settlement and sweeping social change on the Prairies. Through artifacts, photographs, and interactive displays, visitors can explore how people lived, dressed, and entertained themselves more than a century ago.

A striking wall of local photography showcases the lives of early Lloydminster residents, while hands-on elements invite guests to experience the sights, sounds, and routines of early Prairie life.
