Expanded recycling options now available for Lloydminster residents

Lloydminster, AB/SK – Residential recycling in Lloydminster is now managed by Circular Materials through Alberta’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program, bringing an expanded list of accepted materials while curbside collection schedules remain unchanged.

EPR shifts the cost and responsibility for managing recyclable packaging and paper products from municipalities to the producers that supply those materials. Circular Materials, a non-profit organization, administers residential recycling under Alberta’s EPR system, with Integrity Waste Solutions providing recycling collection services in Lloydminster on its behalf.

Residents can now recycle a wider range of materials. Newly accepted materials include glass bottles and jars, flexible plastic packaging such as chip bags and plastic pouches, foam packaging such as Styrofoam, toothpaste tubes, and other small-item packaging.

Other accepted materials include cardboard and boxboard, paper, cartons, plastic containers and food trays, metal and aluminum containers, and aerosol containers.

While the list of accepted materials has expanded, how residents set out their recycling remains the same. Residents should continue using blue or clear bags and place recycling at the curb by 7 a.m. on their scheduled collection day, at least one metre away from carts and other objects. Cardboard should be flattened and broken down for collection.

Residents will also receive a temporary rebate of $3.82 per month on their utility bills from October through December 2026 as the City transitions away from responsibility for residential recycling services.

Garbage and organics collection remain the responsibility of the City of Lloydminster, with collection continuing to be provided by GFL Environmental. There are no changes to garbage or organics collection as a result of the EPR transition.
