Department updates name to ‘Lloydminster Fire Rescue’

Fire Prevention Week open house set for October 8 at Fire Station 2

Lloydminster, AB/SK — The Lloydminster Fire Department – now known as Lloydminster Fire Rescue – invites residents to an open house on Wednesday, October 8, from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Fire Station 2 (2706 59 Ave) as part of Fire Prevention Week.

The event will feature a variety of family-friendly activities, including fire hose target shooting, a fire extinguisher prop for older participants, a colouring contest, a bouncy house, and the opportunity to explore fire trucks and response vehicles.

This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme is “Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.” The campaign focuses on the safe use, storage, and disposal of lithium-ion batteries, which are common in household devices and can pose fire risks if not handled properly. Information and resources on this year’s theme will be available at the open house.

This year’s event will also mark the official introduction of the department’s refreshed identity as Lloydminster Fire Rescue. The updated name better reflects the full scope of services provided by the department, which has offered both fire suppression and rescue services to the community for more than a decade.

While the identity is evolving, the services remain the same, with the department continuing to provide trusted emergency response and protection of lives, property, and the environment. The new name and badge will also be displayed on fire trucks and response vehicles for residents to see during the open house.

“Lloydminster’s fire department has a long tradition of protecting this community and has provided rescue services for more than a decade,” said Mayor Gerald Aalbers. “The new name better reflects the full scope of work provided by the department. These services often go unnoticed until they are needed most, and any thriving community depends on a strong and versatile department.”

“Our department’s role extends well beyond fire prevention and suppression. We take an all-hazards approach to every incident, responding to alarm calls, fires, motor vehicle collisions, hazardous materials events, and ice and water rescues,” said Fire Chief Bill Heesing. “Most recently, we formalized an agreement with Alberta Health Services to provide medical co-response alongside ambulance services within the city. The updated name better reflects the full scope of these services and the commitment we bring to protecting our community.”

The City will continue rolling out the updated identity on vehicles, uniforms, educational materials and online platforms over the coming months.
