Memories of Lloydminster’s Centennial Civic Centre celebrated in video and book tribute

Lloydminster, AB/SK – The City of Lloydminster is honouring the legacy of the Centennial Civic Centre (CCC) through a video tribute and memory book following the facility's closure in December 2025.

The Centennial Civic Centre served the community for 58 years as Lloydminster's largest-capacity event arena, hosting major sports and entertainment events including the Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling, the Allan Cup, and a range of provincial, national, and international competitions. The facility also welcomed well-known performers such as Charlie Pride, Johnny Cash, and June Carter.

The Centennial Civic Centre has been decommissioned and is set for demolition later this year.

A video reflecting on the Centennial Civic Centre's local impact and the memories created within the facility is now available at Lloydminster.ca/CCC. The video features local sport alumni, including Dion Pollard, Mervin Mann, Clint Chocan, Linsay Ollen, Larry Sauer, and long-time facility operator Don Wolfe.

"Over the past six decades, generations of residents have cheered in the stands, competed on the ice and gathered for events off the ice at the Centennial Civic Centre. This building is a big part of our region’s story, which is why moments like these can feel bittersweet,” said Mayor Gerald Aalbers. “While progress means getting to enjoy more modern facilities like Cenovus Energy Hub, it also means saying goodbye to places that hold so much of our shared history. We hope the video and memory book the City of Lloydminster has compiled will ensure those treasured memories live on.”

The famed mural displayed in the Centennial Civic Centre lobby, which captured decades of local sports milestone, has been compiled into a book, titled A History of Ice Sports in Lloydminster,  updated to 2025. The book is available to view and download on the City of Lloydminster website. Hard copy print editions will be available for purchase by request, with public copies also provided to the Lloydminster Public Library and the Lloydminster Museum + Archives. To request a copy for purchase, please contact City Hall at 780-875-6184, or visit Lloydminster.ca/CCC
