Emergency Management is a community’s way of preparing for, responding to, and recovering from unexpected events, that can turn into emergencies. These events can be natural such as wildfires, floods, or winter storms; or technological in nature such as infrastructure failure, cyberattacks, security threats, etc.

As Canadians, we’re familiar with challenging weather such as winter storms or thunderstorms. While these events happen regularly, they can become more serious when they last for several days or turn into larger emergencies such as power outages, flash flooding, or creating hazardous travel conditions.

Being prepared for emergencies is so important because we can’t predict the timing of the next emergency, but we can take steps to reduce its impact. The more prepared we are, both as individuals and as a community, the more resilient we become.
