Stormwater
When stormwater falls onto your roof, driveway, or on the road, it becomes run-off that must be managed through a stormwater system of catch basins, manholes, and storm ponds to prevent flooding.

Municipal Stormwater Utility
The City of Lloydminster has implemented a long-term funding strategy which will ensure the effectiveness of our current Stormwater System, which helps cover depreciation and maintenance costs while adding value to the capital reserve.
Salt and De-Icers
Think about our stormwater system when you are faced with icy conditions!
Salt de-icers used on roads, driveways and sidewalks wash into the stormwater system when snow melts. Because stormwater is not treated, these salts enter local storm ponds and nearby waterways, such as the Neale and Edmunds Lake, where sodium and chloride can build up to harmful levels and negatively impact aquatic life.
Salt also has the potential to damage vehicles and infrastructure, causing rust and shortening the lifespan of roads, driveways and sidewalks.
Using sand or fine gravel instead of salt provides traction, reduces environmental harm, and avoids corrosion. Any remaining material is collected in the spring through regular storm system maintenance and street sweeping.
