Public Art

Public art represents community values, enhances our environment, transforms public addresses into focal points and develops our awareness of place, people and history. The City of Lloydminster recognizes art as an important part of regional culture and economy and that the City has a responsibility to foster an environment that supports public art.

In June 2021, Council adopted its Public Art Policy, which provides direction for the administration of the City’s Public Art Collection. A Terms of Reference was created to provide direction for the operation of the Public Art Advisory Committee and the administration of the Public Art Collection. In May 2022, the City announced that it will be accepting submissions of Public Art for consideration. Submissions are ongoing throughout the year.

Submissions

The City of Lloydminster is looking to commission an artist or artist team to create a 3-dimensional artwork for the southwest corner of the Bioclean Aquatic Centre (herein referred to as BAC), located inside Bud Miller All-Seasons Park. This opportunity is open to Canadian artists. Artists may be at different stages of their careers exploring a diverse range of media. Please follow the submission instructions carefully. If you have any questions, please submit them to publicart@lloydminster.ca with the heading Bioclean Aquatic Centre Public Art Project

Inventory

The City of Lloydminster has over 10 works of Public Art located at City-owned recreation centres, parks and urban spaces throughout the community.

Public Art Policy

Adopted on June 21, 2021, the Public Art Policy (Policy No. 770-01) governs the acquisition, maintenance, funding and disposal/deaccessioning of public art owned by the City.

Public Art Advisory Committee

The Public Art Advisory Committee provides advice and guidance to the City of Lloydminster as it relates to the installation and maintenance of Public Art. The Committee adjudicates public art applications on behalf of the City, establishes and conducts an ongoing maintenance program and provides recommendations to the City on Public Art submissions. The Terms of Reference applies to all members of the committee.
